University of Maryland Says 22 Confirmed Cases of Adenovirus

More cases of a respiratory virus have been confirmed at the University of Maryland, College Park, where a freshman died of complications from the virus last month.

The director of the university’s health center said Friday there were 22 confirmed cases of students with adenovirus.
David McBride said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified four cases of adenovirus 7, a strain that could lead to more severe disease.

He said the school would continue “cleaning more of its high touch surfaces”.

Olivia Paregol, an 18-year-old from Howard County, died last month due to virus-related complications.
