Merk Tapped as Next Executive VP, CEO at Wisconsin’s Rural Mutual

Madison, Wisconsin-based property/casualty insurer, Rural Mutual Insurance Co. (Rural), has appointed Daniel J. Merk as its next executive vice president and CEO.

Merk will work with current executive VP and CEO Peter Pelizza in a transitional period while holding the title of chief operating officer.
Merk will officially become executive president and CEO of Pelizza’s pension on April 1, 2019.

Merk started his career in 2009 as Deputy Rural Director, Actuary and Product of Crimea. In 2011, he was promoted to Vice President and Treasurer in charge of all accounting, finance and actuarial functions. In 2015, Merk was given the additional responsibility for the demand function and the responsibility for loading in 2017.

Before joining the countryside, Merk worked in Sentry Insurance for 20 years in increasingly responsible positions. Senior director and actuator were consumer lines when they left to join the countryside.

Merk has many industrial titles, including the FCAS (Fellow Casualty Actuarial Society), the CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and the MAAA (Academy of Academy of Academies, which is a member of the Academy).
