Land O’Lakes, Gravie to Expand Farmer Health Insurance Plan in Minnesota

183

Land O’Lakes Inc. and Gravie will expand their Farmer Health Insurance Plan in next year in Minnesota.

When a law was passed in Minnesota last year allowing agricultural co-op members to band together to purchase group health benefits, Land O’Lakes partnered with Gravie, a Minneapolis-based benefits marketplace, to design a health plan exclusively for farmer-owned co-op members.
Last year, a program of a co-ops group in Minnesota piloted the program, which included hundreds of farmers and their families, with an average savings of 10 to 20 percent.

The program is expanding due to its success. In Minnesota, the number of participating cooperatives is growing over 60 percent, and in 2019, eligible co-operation members and staff will be able to benefit from the program. In addition, Land O Land Lakes Inc. and Gravie is actively working to expand the program to other states, which is providing high health insurance prices for farmers across the country.
