8 Injured When Tornado Hits Eastern Kansas Town

The governor declared an emergency after eight people were injured after a hurricane hit a small town in Kansas.

The tornado was touched in the town of Eureka in Greenwood District, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) east of Wichita on Tuesday night. Greenwood County Emergency Management Twitter, a group of about 2,400 people, “direct hit” said.

Gov. Jeff Colyer declared an extraordinary state of emergency in the county about an hour after the storm hit.

Kansas Adjutant General Office spokeswoman Jane Welch said that the various homes and businesses were damaged. Damage assessments are ongoing. Welch did not know how the eight victims were hurt.

A shelter was built in a church for the displaced.
