Toyota introduced the new Corolla’s hatchback version in recent months, followed by the station version in Paris. Now, a few weeks ago, the sedan version introduced at the Guangzhou Exhibition in China came to Los Angeles for the North American premiere.
The Toyota Corolla sedan will continue to be available in traditional engine options, but will be added to the series for the first time. The hybrid system from Prius consists of a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors and a CVT transmission.
The system consumes 122 hp (90 kW) and 4.7 L/100 km of fuel. The car also features a new hyper-Prime nickel battery positioned under the rear seats. Location of the battery under the floor instead of the luggage, the TNGA platform uses the car has less room to take advantage of.
The pre-loaded differential directs the torque to both front wheels separately and provides a surprisingly successful acceleration response.
The Corolla Hybrid comes with Normal, Eco and home driving modes as expected. In addition, “Sport” mode provides more power to accelerate. The regenerative braking system is designed to work together with the wheels to provide more stopping power.
Corolla Hybrid comes with low rolling resistant tires. The vehicle also offers the most up-to-date security and multimedia technologies.
Prices have not yet been announced for the US market, but are expected to be slightly more expensive than the combustion engine. Corolla Hybrid joins the hybrid versions of Toyota’s petrol – electric hybrid series of Prius, Prius Prime, Prius C, Mihai fuel cell cars, as well as Camry, Avalon, RAV4, Highlander.
